Earth Day
Earth day is coming up April 22nd, and don't forget about Earth Hour on Saturday March 31st, from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm.

From the beginning of the development process, Painted Boat has focused on being a sustainable partner to the environment. The Resort, The Spa and The Restaurant have all worked towards reducing our paper and office needs, and all departments support the following initiatives. Please note that this is only a small sampling of our Environmental Commitment to our Mother Earth.
· Our original plans only consisted of building on 20% of the property, when we could have built on up to 50%. In making this decision, we were able to retain many of our original old-growth trees on the property, as well as plant many native shrubs and flora
· All of our buildings are multi-level, which helps insulate from the heat and the cold, reducing our energy requirements.
· The majority of our villas’ heating sources come from in-floor radiant heating, which is held at the floor, rather than dissipating in the air.
· We have a Recycling program that recycles everything from batteries to newspaper, and will be introducing an organics program this Spring. Each villa is provided with its own containers for separating materials.
· Rather than paving all of the roadways at Painted Boat, we chose Eco-grid©, which is a gridded, interlocking system of reclaimed rubber that holds gravel. Once installed, it provides a hard surface to drive on that allows for rainwater to easily drain through and it does not hold heat the same way asphalt does.
· We use compact fluorescent bulbs within all of our villas, reducing our energy needs.
· All of our outdoor resort lighting is on light sensors that are programmed to be activated at dusk.
· The Restaurant is part of the Vancouver Aquarium OceanWise® program, which is focused on only allowing for sustainable fish to be served on menus.
· The Restaurant is focused on local coastal ingredients, which helps reduce our Carbon Footprint, as well as supports our Local Sunshine Coast farmers and producers. Our Chef, Spencer Watts, will be taking that one step further this summer with his plans for a small herb garden.
